You are in an overgrown park. This was once a well-maintained spot: a clean path circling around a large stone fountain, shaded benches, careful arrangements of local and more exotic flora planted in sectioned off areas outside the circle. But now it is totally overgrown. The stone is cracked, the fountain is dried up and filled with vines, the exotic vegetation has intermingled with each other and now overflows from their designated areas onto the path.
You see something strange and familiar growing in the center of the fountain: a single, bulbous, sickly looking FLOWER, as big as a dinner plate and bright purple.
To the WEST is the schoolhouse. You can hear the commotion of children assembling outside. To the EAST is the courthouse, eerily silent. To the SOUTH are townhouses.
It is 10:00

DeleteWhy it's a WEEPING LILY. It's thick purple petals produce an instant narcotic high. Your mother had you gather these in the swamp for anesthetic purposes, but she kept them under close guard and told you to never tell the secret of where they grew. Opium fiends and alcoholics would beg your mother about giving them a quick fix of Weeping Lily, but she never sold them.
DeleteIt's strange, Weeping Lily only used to thrive out in the swamp along with the weeds, as though it shunned civilized society like a wild animal. But here is a rare blossom, a big one at that, sitting ignored right in the center of town. Then again, its not surprising that nobody has picked it by now. It is hiding in plain sight, camouflaged with the rest of the overgrowth. If you hadn't been trained to notice the bright purple you would have walked right by it.
Note: The WEEPING LILY's petals must be ingested to work. Not that you'd try anything like that, but it is safe to handle with your bare hands. The blossom has FIVE petals.
DeleteTime for Calvin to get a little weird. TAKE the PETALS. Strictly for medicinal purposes. Unrelated: I wonder if Officer Habergrace enjoys his coffee in the morning...
